SCHEDULE FOR MORNING SESSION SATURDAY, APRIL 24

Understanding the Science of Sleep: A Practical Approach to Improving Patient Health

Sleep is an indicator of health, and sufficient sleep quality and quantity should be considered an essential component of a healthy lifestyle, as much as exercise and good nutrition. Over the past decade, there have been major advances in our understanding of the science of sleep, sleep disorders, and improved treatment options. With the recent recognition of clinical sleep medicine as a medical specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties, sleep is making its way in to the mainstream of medicine and clinical practice.

This symposium will further your understanding of the relationship of sleep and health. Experts in sleep medicine, Psychiatry, Pulmonology and sleep pharmacology will present a balanced program of lectures and case scenarios to improve your understanding of sleep disorders. Treatment guidelines will focus on the bio-directional relationship between sleep and co-morbid medical conditions. Panel discussions will focus on research needed to better understand the mechanisms that link sleep to health and the development of safer and more effective treatments for sleep disorders.
